Film Night
We spent a very relaxing evening
viewing- in my opinion – on of the most enjoyable films ever made
“Roman Holiday”, starring the lovely Adder Hepburn and the
handsome Gregory Peck. This was Audrey's first leading role in a
major film, and it made her an international star.
The story was about a Princess (Audrey)
and a reporter (Gregory). The Princess ventures to enjoy an ordinary
lifestyle, and meets the reporter, who sees himself getting a great
scoop for his newspaper. Of course there is romance...
As the movie was made entirely in Rome,
the audience is treated to a tourist's guide of Rome's famous
attractions, ideally filmed, as our stars travel around the Eternal
City on a scooter.
Alas, the Princess must return to her
royal duties, and the reporter, who has come to a realisation of her
difficult life, now has to decide if he will do the noble thing and
quash the story. The Princess is amazed to discover that his sidekick
has been taking photographs of her exploits with a camera disguised
as a cigarette lighter. Will he also spare her publicity?
We finished the evening with a lovely
supper, compliments to Eileen Murphy, and refreshing cups of tea
from Tommy.
Out thanks to Paddy Kelly, who worked
the projector, and to Davis Spain, who supplied the wonderful film,
