REVIEW OF RECENT EVENTS

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The AGM attracted a good attendance. Chairperson Teresa Talbot welcomed all. Paddy Kelly read the Minutes of the previous AGM, and the Secretary’s Report. The Treasurer’s Report showed a good
result from the last year’s activities. All the Club’s helpers were thanked by the Chairman and other matters of interest discussed. The number of nominations for the Executive Committee did not exceed the maximum, so all were declared elected - details will be given in the next Bulletin, DV. Teresa O’Hehir and Tommy provided the nice supper, then the Card players enjoyed their games for the rest of the night.

45TH BIRTHDAY DINNER_DANCE

A great night out for members and friends was at the Club’s 45th Birthday Dinner-Dance in Maples House Hotel.

Relaxing in the comfortable dining-room, we enjoyed a wonderful 4-course meal, starting with a delicious vegetable soup, followed by a main course of stuffed turkey and ham with tender vegetables, and for dessert, a selection of cakes, with tea or coffee. The highlight of the evening was the cutting of the delectable Birthday Cake, compliments of Cait’s baking skills. The honour of this important task was given to Clare and Dan Sherry, who are long-standing members.

After the meal, Pat O’Neill’s Band played some lively dance music; we had ceili dancing, oldtime waltzes and quick-steps.

Throughout the evening we had many Raffle and Spot Prizes going to lucky winners. We were entertained by several of our Club’s talented
singers – Paddy Kelly, Francis Lawlor, Deirdre Clancy and Teresa Talbot took to the floor in musical artistry. Finally a wonderful birthday celebration came to a close with a short talk by Teresa thanking all our helpers, remembering our late President and Chairpersons, Martin and Eileen Coen.

Thanks go to everyone who contributed to this very successful happy occasion and to the Committee whose hard work made it possible.

FILM NIGHT “BRINGING UP BABY”

The most popular ‘screwball comedy’ from the heyday of the genre, this film starred Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn and a supporting cast of some well-known actors, including “our own” Barry Fitzgerald, and a “tame” leopard. We heard plenty of laughs throughout. Our thanks to projectionist Paddy Kelly and to Eileen
Murphy who gave us a grand supper.
