REVIEW OF RECENT EVENTS

44TH BIRTHDAY DINNER-DANCE

The Club’s Annual Birthday Dinner-Dance was held on l8th October in the Maples Hotel. It consisted of a 4-course meal – cream of vegetable soup, turkey, ham and all the trimmings, apple pie and cream, followed by tea or coffee and – guess what? -a slice of Cait’s beautifully-decorated Birthday Cake.

Pat O’Neill’s Band provided the music, old-time waltzes, quicksteps, even the “Walls of Limerick”,
to name but a few. We had songs from some of our star singers – David Spain, Deirdre Clancy, Francis Lawlor, Teresa Talbot, Patsy Collins – singing their own choice, which was very enjoyable. Tommy Ward kept all running smoothly, making sure every-thing was just right.

If you wanted to spend a little on Raffle tickets, there were many fantastic prizes up for grabs, and
Spot Prizes drawn on entry tickets. If you weren’t a lucky winner, you’d still have a real good night
as the atmosphere was just electric. If you were there, thank you for coming – and if you weren’t, you missed a great night which was had by all.

FILM “l00 MEN AND A GIRL”

An early film of Deanna Durbin with a fine supporting cast - Adolphe Menjou, Michel Auer, and famous conductor Leopold Stokowski. The “l00 Men” are musicians who need a celebrity conductor in order to get a sponsor so they can form an orchestra. Not an easy task, but with the help of enterprising Deanna and her beautiful singing, who knows what doors may be opened? A delightful and entertaining film, much enjoyed by all, made available by our projectionist Paddy Kelly, followed by Eileen Murphy’s lovely supper, many thanks to both.
