ANNUAL BUS OUTING
We started our day at llam from the city centre in PJ Browne’s Bus, arriving at lpm at Carlingford Arms Hotel, where we had a 4-course lunch, with plenty to choose from for each course, including world-famous local oysters and mouth-watering profiteroles. The food was excellent, with enormous helpings, and the staff were very friendly. We explored Carlingford for a while, viewing the beautiful scenery, the Lough and Mourne Mountains, though the weather wasn’t ideal.
Later we headed for Ardgillan Castle, but it was closing early, so after a brief glimpse of the spacious grounds, we enjoyed an evening snack in nearby Balbriggan. On the bus home we had a very entertaining sing-song, led by David Spain, Patsy Collins, Deirdre Clancy, Francis Lawlor and Teresa O’Hehir. It was a great day out and very good value. Thanks to everyone who helped to make it so pleasant.

THE ANNIVERSARY MASS
for CLUB FOUNDER and PRESIDENT EILEEN and MARTIN COEN in the Holy Spirit Church, Greenhills, on July 6th was attended by several members who were thanked by the Coen Family. We still miss them, and do our best to continue their good work in the Club. May they rest in peace.
CONDOLENCES
to Mary O’Dowd, family and friends on the recent death of her husband JJ. Mary and JJ were long-term members, and enthusiastic, gifted performers in Club plays and “Come-All- Ye’s”. We will miss him very much. May he rest in peace.
FILM “THE MARK OF ZORRO”
In this well-known film, a young man returns to his home in old California to find his father, the Mayor, deposed and replaced by a corrupt scoundrel. To complicate matters, he falls in love with the
new Mayor’s beautiful niece. He decides to take action, and much excitement and derring-do follow.
With handsome Tyrone Power, lovely Linda Darnell and Basil Rathbone, “Hollywood’s best swordsman” there was fine swordplay, dramatic chases and even some fun. This “colorised” version made the period costumes look even more impressive. We thank Paddy Kelly, projectionist, and Eileen Murphy who served the delicious supper.
