REVIEW OF RECENT EVENTS:

ASH WEDNESDAY MASS

On Ash Wednesday Holy Mass was offered in theClub by Fr Declan Blake once again. This was probably the Club’s first Concelebrated Mass – he brought a visiting priest from Nigeria for the
occasion. The readings were done by Patsy Collins, and Teresa (T) provided the hymns and music on
our electronic organ. Tommy served the “cuppa” and biscuits after. The Mass was beautiful; recently-
deceased members were remembered and prayed for. There was a good attendance, and Fr Blake had a word with everybody afterwards.

ST PATRICK’S PARTY

Despite a delay in the arrival of sound equipment (outside the Committee’s control), when things
got going there was some ‘serious’ dancing to a variety of music. Wine and orange drinks were
served a little before the scrumptious supper of savoury sandwiches, apple tarts, cream cakes and more, there was just so much to choose from thank you to caterers Cait and Tommy. Thank you also to all who assisted me with the evening.

FILM NIGHT:   “CALL IT MURDER”

Described as “a gripping tale of murder and justice as a jury foreman finds himself having the casting vote in a case that would condemn a young woman to death for murder”, the film was selected by members from a short list of thrillers. Thought provoking, and topical in some ways, Humphrey Bogart played the lead. Over a lovely supper provided by Eileen Murphy and Tommy Ward, much chat about the film and more bonded members together.

PERSONAL

Sincere thanks to all the Club members and friends who have shown me such kindness during my recent stay in Hospital and in a Convalescent Home, following an operation to replace an arthritic
knee. Both the Hospital and Home are a distance away, and I didn’t expect any  visitors – in fact I’d heard such daunting reports about the surgery and “after-effects” that I told people beforehand I didn’t think I’d be in any fit state to receive anyone. Thank God the whole treatment wasn’t as bad as I feared. I was amazed that so many people took the time and trouble to visit, to bring Mass Bouquets and other gifts and to cheer me up.  I’ve been overwhelmed by the wonderful “Club Spirit” shown. As a token of gratitude the Holy Sacrifice of Mass is being offered for you all.
