NEW YEAR PARTY
The
New Year’s Party was held on Jan 3rd. Despite the
cold weather there was a very good attendance.Downstairs
Francis Lawlor – with a little help from
Paul Brady – provided the music, with CDs of tastefully-chosen
golden oldies. And all of us silver-haired
oldies enjoyed dancing to them. Meanwhile
Tommy Ward made sure that everyone had a
glass or two of wine or orange, and Teresa O’Hehir
sold tickets for a Raffle of some fine prizes.
A
little later we all retired upstairs for a very tasty
meal indeed. There were turkey and ham sandwiches,
fruitcake, trifle and mince pies that were
far superior to anything sold in shops or supermarkets,
prepared and provided mainly by Cait Clynch
and Eileen Murphy – accompanied by Tommy’s tea.
It
was a wonderful night, and a wonderful way to start
the New Year.

FILM
SHOW – COMEDY NIGHT
In
response to popular demand, our latest Film Night
consisted of Comedy Stars of Yore – Stan Laurel,
Oliver Hardy and Charley Chase, among others.
Projectionist Paddy Kelly soon had us all
chuckling merrily at the antics on the screen. Long
before computer-generated imaging, and with trick
photography in its early stages, it was a revelation
to see what film cameras could do. The inventiveness
and humour were most entertaining. Special
thanks to Dolores Dempsey who made the film
available to us. Eileen Murphy again served a
lovely supper. Walking home on a frosty night, admiring
the heavenly skyscape – a brilliant planet
- Jupiter? - Orion and Sirius, ended an impressive
“night of stars”.
