Review of Recent Events

So on Sunday 22nd June our bus load of happy day-trippers headed for Birr, Co.Offaly, from Club premises. It was a beautiful morning and continued so for the rest of the day. In Birr at 1.30pm, we had a 3-course lunch in Kelly's on the Green, with beef, ham and chicken meals to choose from, followed by scrumptious desserts: apple pie, fruit salad or ice-cream. All were pleased for Birr Castle where the Great Telescope, for many years the world's largest, Suspension Bridge (first iron one in Ireland), waterfalls, the rivers Camcor and Little Brosna, the lake, tallest box-hedges in the world and Horn-beam Cloister were walked around and viewed. Some got to see part of Birr Heritage Town with its Geogrian architecture, other relaxed in the sun. Coffee/tea and picnic in the Castle grounds was followed by our journey home, with a few songs thrown in. We all enjoyed the day. Thank you to PJ Browne, our jovial bus driver, and to the Club Committee members who organised it.

Film Night - "It Happened to Jane"

A spunky young widow (Doris Day)'s small business comes under fire from a tycoon (Ernie Kovacs). She pursues her rights, with reluctant help from her friend (Jack Lemmon). Will she succeed? An entertaining story, well acted and presented. Thanks once again to projectionist Francis Lawlor, and to Eileen Murphy for the delicious supper.
