Review of Recent Events- Film Night


Mystery, intrigue, murder- ingredients for the classic thriller, 'The Thirty- Nine Steps', based on John Buchan's famous novel. Robert Donat is the dashing hero, and innocent man suspected of a crime, striving bravely to clear this name, in a favourite Hitchcock scenario. Madeleine Carroll – perhaps the first of the director's 'ice-cold blonde' heroines – hinders his efforts to escape his pursuers, until. The chase takes us to the Scottish Highlands and back to London for an exciting finale. The Cast included John Laurie and Peggy Ashcroft. An entertaining and at times amusing adventure story. Thanks to 'projectionist' Paddy Kelly for showing it. The evening ended with a pleasant supper.
