REVIEW OF RECENT EVENTS

ANNUAL MASS for DECEASED MEMBERS and RELATIVES

We had a good attendance for this very important occasion. Once again the Celebrant was our good friend Fr. Declan Blake, whose homily included a moving and expressive “Message from a Departed Loved One”. He invited each of us to light a candle on the altar there in remembrance of someone we’ve lost. Paddy Kelly did the readings, and very well too; the music on the Club’s organ was provided by Teresa Talbot who also led the singing of some appropriate hymns. The Club has been blessed in having such a fine commemoration for the Holy Souls each year. We all enjoyed a lovely cup of Tommy’s tea after.

FILM NIGHT “IT STARTED WITH EVE”

A kind-hearted girl obliges a stranger in a difficult situation, but it leads to all sorts of unforeseen - and unforeseeable – complications. The star-studded cast was led by Deanna Durbin,
who treated us to some beautiful singing, Robert Cummings as the bemused young man she helps, and a truly outstanding performance by Charles Laughton in a rare comedy role – what a “tour de force”.
Several fine supporting turns by familiar faces from the period added to the fun. We all enjoyed it. Many thanks to projectionist Paddy Kelly and to Eileen Murphy who provided the grand supper.
